Great thing to share with your children! June 1, 2008 I started by buying these for my parents to fill out for me. I loved reading their responses. I learned many things about my parents that I didn't know before. It also sparked conversations with them about additional stories.
Now that I have children, I'm buying these books for me and (the grandparent ones) for my parents to fill out for them. And buying them as gifts for new parents.
Regarding the comments that there isn't a lot of room to write...The pages are small, but there are only a few pages that you would get that lengthy on your stories. You can always attach in an additional sheet of paper to continue your story.
If not now, when? May 29, 2008 I am overseas with the Army. I gave this to my Mom for Christmas 2007. She got it in November and I said she could open it. She wrote back that she loves it and it writing in it all the time. She asked if I could handle some of it, I said of course I can. She died April 20, 2008 at 69 years of age. When I get back home this book will be the first thing I look for. Get one for your Mom. Now. Because if not now, then when? I am glad I did not wait.
Great questions, but not enough space to answer them! :( July 12, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is set up such that every day of the year has its own question. This is great to keep moms on task and filling out the pages in a timely manner. Many of the pages are quite thought-provoking and encourage story-sharing. However, the space is MUCH too limited to adequately do so. For example, it is difficult to relate a childhood story in a space the size of an index card. And some of that space is taken up by the question! Couple that with someone who doesn't have TEENY TINY handwriting...and you have a problem. The questions are great, but there should be adequate room for an answer! For example, my mother quickly ran out of room on a question/card about elementary school but then there was an entire page for "what was your day and date of birth"?? That just makes no sense. Also, be warned that the font of the questions can be hard to read (as it is cursive and squished together). This is difficult for people with vision problems and for those whose primary language is not English. If you can get past that (and maybe supplement some of your own blank pages), this is a fantastic keepsake. It causes Mom to fondly look back on her life and remember events long past. Overall review: It is a great way to share memories...but the logistics of this book need serious improvement.
great January 5, 2007 I think this is a great way to know things about your mother you may have never asked her.
Daughter's Remembrance August 2, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
My daughter, who is dying of cancer, had received a copy of this book from a friend. I had asked her some of the questions and could answer some of them for her. I ordered 2 additional copies for her other 2 children and in filling them out feel that they will provide her very young 3 sons with some idea of what her childhood and growing up years were like. Hopefully they will be a very treasured memento from a mother they will only be able to keep in their hearts.
