Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Boldly modern with a playful watch face, the Invicta Lupah stainless steel men's chronograph watch (model 9816) offers a perfect accessory match to today's contemporary casual dress. This precise Swiss-made chronograph timepiece has a rectangular, brightly polished silver stainless steel case that measures 46mm wide (1.81 inches), and it features a globule mineral crystal as well as large, globule chronograph pushers. The three chronograph subdials can measure events to within 1/60 of a second and up to 30 minutes of elapsed time, and it features start, stop, and reset functions.

The black dial background is accented by silver stylized Arabic numerals and luminous Tritnite hands (with seconds hand). Tritnite is a luminous material with an extended glow exclusively developed by Invicta in Switzerland and added to their timepiece hands and markers. When exposed to regular daylight, it will hold its glow for about 20 hours. It's completed by bright yellow stain-/scratch-/fade-/water-resistant padded Italian Lorica strap that's made from a special microfiber blend. Other features include a date function at 3 o'clock and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.

5 out of 5 stars A good watch and a good deal   October 1, 2008
Bought two of these a few weeks ago for about 60.00 delivered. One was a present for my brother and I kept the 2nd one. I don't mind the yellow band on occasion. But I needed a black band for every day. The Lorica OEM band felt cheezy to me. I found a great 24mm black leather band for about 10 bucks on ebay. Gotta say the black band really makes this piece pretty.
That said I wouldn't consider this watch at over a hundred dollars. Quartz watches are basically all the same, you are buying fashion at this price point. Overall happy with this watch so far.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sport Watch!   September 30, 2008

I bought this watch as a gift for a friend and I was very tempted to keep it for myself! It is a very cool, top quality watch and it draws people in to check it out. The sport watch is a great value and is practically worth the price of the box that it comes in. The box design, color, look and feel is probably the best I have ever experienced. No need to gift wrap, it looks too good. My buddy loves the watch. I do too, I see him wearing it and it makes me want to purchase one for myself. The best gifts are always something that you would enjoy yourself.

4 out of 5 stars Nice!!!! For the price!!!   September 24, 2008

This watch is very nice. Especially for the price. The quality seems very good. The band material takes a little getting use to. The band has a neat quick release function that make changing it easy. I would recommend this watch.

5 out of 5 stars So far, so good.   August 30, 2008

I purchased this watch from Amazon a little over a week ago, and so far it stays in time with internet time, to the second as far as I can tell. It is attractive, though I bought it with the yellow band only because Amazon offered a deal (which enabled me to get it for around $65, which includes sales tax which I have to pay because I'm in one of the few states where Amazon is required to charge sales tax).

I have already bought and received a black Invicta Lorica watch band for this watch (from Jomashop, who has a shop on Amazon), and I have ordered but not yet received a red Invicta Lorica band (from another dealer who has a shop on Amazon). This way I can change bands as desired, and I thank Jnanda for his review, which inspired me to purchase this watch with extra bands.

As Jnanda mentions, Invicta Lorica bands have a quick release feature, but for whatever reason the black band I purchased does not have this feature, and I can only hope that the red band I purchased but have yet to receive will have it. (I wrote to Jomashop asking why the black band lacks this feature, e.g., is it an older version, and I will update this review if and when I get a reply.) Bands can be changed even if they do not have the quick release feature, but that feature makes it much easier.

I applied for Invicta's free upgrade to a five-year warranty and they say it takes a few weeks for that to be processed. I also emailed Invicta to ask if having the battery changed by a local jeweler voids the warranty, and that was a week ago and I have yet to receive a reply. Needless to say, this does not inspire faith in Invicta's customer service, but given what I paid for this watch I'm not all that concerned.

As long as the watch continues to work as it's been working, it is a darn nice looking watch. With a black band I can wear it with dress clothes, with the red and yellow bands I can wear it with casual wear, though the yellow band is obviously not going to go well with everything (but looks great with a bright yellow sweatshirt that I have).

As for the chronograph features, they work as they are supposed to but I haven't had a practical use for them yet.

Amazon's price for this watch as I write this is $81 and change. That's a deal and I am almost tempted to buy a second one so that I can have two with different colored bands on them, but I'm not going to risk having a problem with one (or both) of them, and I don't want to have yet another watch laying around draining a battery. I've had Pulsars that cost more than what I paid for this watch--they cost over $100 each--and neither looked anywhere as nice as this watch. If I did not already own this watch, I would snap it up at the current price, and I would buy at least one extra band so that I would have the option of not wearing a watch with a bright yellow band. But before buying an extra band I would contact the seller to make sure that the Invicta Lorica band I'm buying has the quick release feature that the yellow band this watch comes with has.

Certainly a nice "fashion statement" and I started getting positive comments on the watch on the first day I wore it. The "globule" mineral crystal magnifies the watch face, and that's helpful for me given that I wear reading glasses and can't see smaller or unmagnified watch faces that easily. The hour and minute hands glow in the dark and are large enough that I can tell the time at a glance without reading glasses.

If my Invicta continues to work without problems, I may purchase an Invicta "Baby Lupah" for my daughter for Christmas or for her birthday in January. They are nice-looking watches and the box mine came in and that I assume all Invicta watches come in is an art object. But I'll make sure I get one at a good price rather than at an inflated price. (Invicta's recommended retail price for this watch is $395, or at least that's the price on the tag that Invicta had attached to the watch when I received it. Most retailers on the web price it at somewhere between $100 and $160 or so. I would love to find out what the wholesale cost of these watches are. When operating a bookstore in the nineties where I also sold some jewelry, I learned something from a wholesale jewerly saleswoman that really surprised me. She asked me why I priced the jewelry so low. I thought she would be glad that I did, because I thought that the lower the price, the more you sell. She explained to me that most women who buy jewelry for themselves will see a pair of earrings for $20 and think, "I'm worth more than that," but may be drawn to the exact same earrings if the retail price is closer to $50--I'm talking nineties prices; today the prices would be higher. And she said that the same logic applies when someone is buying jewelry as a gift for someone else; they come in with a predetermined idea of how much they are going to spend. I told her that I usually doubled the wholesale price to come up with a retail price. She said to mark jewelry up at least four times and to put less on display at a time so that each item with a higher price tag will really stand out. I somewhat reluctantly took her advice--reluctantly because it was counter-intuitive to me and I was afraid that the higher jewelry prices might alienate customers--but it turned out that she was right. My profits from jewelry sales increased exponentially. So caveat emptor!)

5 out of 5 stars Invicta's Lupah Rules...So There!!!   October 6, 2007

This is a sophisticated time piece that is stylish, accurate, and has a durable feel to it. The yellow strap adds to this watches ability to stand out and make a fashion statement, which is always better then a fascist statement...lol. I ordered a set of multi colored straps which are easily switched with the quick release system that Invicta has for their watches. Once more I am truly impressed by not only Invicta but for Amazon.com for this truly wonderful deal that has made this purchase possible for me. I thank them both and the Divine. Sincerely, Satguruyogiprabhu
